Who We Are

STARS (Science, Technology and Research Support) was founded in 2000 by a group of dedicated Southern California women who had been active in the volunteer community for more than 30 years.

Originally our efforts went toward providing scholarships for promising college students in scientific fields. We soon realized that there was an even greater need to support the research of scientists who were working to find cures for illnesses that are plaguing mankind.

After consulting several prominent people in the medical field, we decided to lend our support to the Sanford/Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, California. Dr. John Reed, President and CEO and Stuart A. Lipton, M.D., PhD, Director, Del E. Webb Center for Neurosciences and Aging at Burnham, have been joined by many other scientists renowned in their fields.Their achievements have been remarkable. The $510,000+ STARS has donated to date has been instrumental in bringing millions of grant dollars to the Sanford-Burnham team.
